The Republican majority in the House of Representatives was officially announced more than a week after election night, but after a race Despite it stays too close to call.

Republicans have won a majority in all major branches of the federal government in the 2024 election – the White House, the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Here’s a look at the one uncalled House race that will determine the size of the GOP’s slim lead in the lower chamber of Congress.

California’s 13th District: Adam Gray v. John Duarte

In California, a House seat in the 13th Congressional District in the state’s Central Valley remains undermined.

As of December 2nd, the vote difference between the two candidates is just over 200 votes, with Democrat Adam Gray in the lead. About 99% of the votes have been counted.

Incumbent Republican Rep. John Duarte won his farm belt seat over Gray in 2022 by one of the narrowest margins in the country, 564 votes.

Both candidates emphasized their bipartisan credibility.

Duarte, a businessman and major wine and almond grower, said his priorities include curbing inflation, reducing crime rates and ensuring adequate water supplies for farmers in the drought-prone state.

Gray, a former lawmaker, criticizes the state’s water management and puts water and agriculture at the top of his list of issues. He also says he would like to see improvements in infrastructure, renewable energy and education.

What is the majority in the House of Representatives?

To have a majority in the House of Representatives, 218 seats are required, which Republicans surpassed weeks ago.

Republicans currently hold 220 seats to Democrats’ 214 seats, with one race still pending.

But as The Associated Press reports, the GOP majority is thin and a well-functioning House of Representatives is not guaranteed.

The Republican majority depends on a small group of lawmakers who won tough elections by running as moderates. It remains to be seen whether they will stay on board and stick to party lines on some of the more extreme proposals put forward by Trump and his allies.
