2024 was a deadly year on Nevada roads, with multiple accidents and wrong-way driving

Authorities are investigating a wrong-way accident that killed two people, one of whom was a off-duty official with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

So far, in 2024, 375 deathswere reported in Nevada, 267 of which came from Clark County. Many accidents are attributed to speed.

Thursday’s accident is just one of several similar accidents reported on Southern Nevada roads this year.

April 17: Ghost driver runs over family of five, killing two

A ghost drivermet a family of five who were waiting at a bus stop on Boulder Highway.

Two people were killed in the accident, including a teenager, and the others suffered serious injuries.

The driver was identified as a 64-year-old Cynthia Phelpspleaded guilty to multiple counts of driving under the influence and was sentenced to at least 15 years in prison.

May 13: Wrong-way driver dead after two-vehicle collision on US 95

A wrong-way driver died after an accident Crash along US 95 at Nye County mile marker 41, which is approximately 85 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

According to police, the driver was traveling southbound on US95 in the northbound lane when he collided with a white 2010 Peterbilt semi truck/trailer.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the tractor-trailer reported minor injuries and did not require transport to a hospital.

May 31: A Nevada prison officer is flown out after a wrong-way crash near Lee Canyon

A prison officer from Nevada was flown to a hospital after a wrong-way driver accident on US 95 at mile marker 101.

The victim was later identified as Correctional Lt. Jonathan Rivera, who was driving to work at High Desert State Prison on Friday.

Nevada State Police would go ahead and arrest the 31-year-old Donovan Garciamorenoas a suspect in the accident.

June 20: Two dead after a wrong-way driver causes a three-vehicle crash on the 215 Beltway

Two people were killed after oneCrashing in the wrong direction along Northern Beltway 215 westbound near Exit 38, west of Jones.

Three vehicles were involved in the accident. Investigators said the wrong-way driver was an adult male who was behind the wheel of a GMC utility vehicle traveling east in the westbound lane.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. A driver who was in one of the cars that was struck was also pronounced dead the passenger was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The third vehicle involved in the accident had only one driver, who was not transported to a hospital.

An investigation later revealed that it was the wrong-way driver reported six minutesbefore the crash.

October 25: 1 dead, several injured after driving the wrong way on the freeway in Las Vegas

An 18-year-old died after oneCrashing in the wrong direction on US 95/I-11 northbound near Boulder Highway.

According to police, a vehicle was traveling in the northbound lane and collided with another car.

A passenger in the ghost car, identified as Marilyn Rodriguez of Las Vegas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Alyssa Scott, was later booked in absence on suspicion of drunk driving and reckless driving causing death in connection with the accident.

According to state police, Scott allegedly showed signs of impairment and troopers on scene found an open bottle of alcohol in the vehicle.

November 24: Las Vegas driver dies in wrong-way accident near Pahrump

A 42-year-old Las Vegas man died after a Crashing in the wrong direction on State Route 160, about 15 miles south of Pahrump.

An investigation revealed that the man, later identified as Adam Joseph Lousig-Nont, was driving a white 2015 Lexus RC coupe northbound in the southbound lanes of the highway when the vehicle was not within the marked lanes stopped and crashed into a metal guardrail.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the accident.
