3 things we hated and 3 things we loved

3 things we hated and 3 things we loved

Chelsea Green must have had a lot of confidence as she walked into her US Women’s Championship game, her face proudly plastered on her all-white attire. As it turned out, their confidence was well founded, as Green and Michin completely stole the show in Saturday night’s main event in their match for the US Women’s Championship.

Obviously, therein lies the trick: Green is the first US women’s champion and for many the “right” booking decision. While I have to say that Michin put up a great fight and would have been (or would have been, if we look to the future) a great US Champion, I can’t ignore how good Green is at the game. Since returning to WWE at the 2023 Royal Rumble, she has been a standout star on every show she appears on with her constant comedic antics. Green has also shown that she’s more than willing to put her body through extreme circumstances for the love of the game – her spot resume is impressive, with an insane ladder dive at Money in the Bank 2024 and a thrilling dumpster match as the proverbial highlight. She has done all of this without having a singles title under her belt or any prospect of a singles title in her immediate future. Many consider Green to be the “right” booking choice, and for good reason – she has proven that she can provide great entertainment, both light-hearted and serious, without selfishness and with an open mind.

The journey is just as important, if not more important, than the destination itself. That’s a saying, but in this game it was more than true. As exciting as Green’s win is, I wouldn’t be writing about it here if the title game hadn’t been just as satisfying. Green and Michin’s experiences together on the independent scene shined in the beginning, where Green and Michin immediately felt comfortable, allowing Michin to sell well and adding an air of legitimacy to Green’s typically comedic character. Sure there were a few awkward spots here and there, but honestly both women performed better than in other recent games. The chemistry between them was just right and made such a special and historic game even better. To top it all off, the finish was innovative and just right for Green. Like a counter somersault from the top rope into a successful Un-Pretty-Her? It’s so creative that the location alone would have put this match above some of the other matches seen on the card.

Green and Michin fully justified their place as the first finalists of the Women’s United States Championship tournament. Despite being sandwiched between a tough fight for the World Heavyweight Championship and the main event, they persevered, and Green’s excitement at finally winning her first singles title in WWE was glorious. Michin put up a spectacular fight, but for now all our comically large hats go to Chelsea Green.
