49ers news: Ben Bartch to IR; Ke’Shawn Vaughn was called up from the practice squad

As expected, the San Francisco 49ers have officially elevated linebacker Dre Greenlaw from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list to the active roster. Running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn was called up from the team’s practice squad, while backup offensive lineman Ben Bartch was officially placed on Injured Reserve.

Greenlaw’s snap count and usage will be fascinating to monitor. You want to get him started, but he’s one of your tone-setters in a must-win division game.

The same goes for Nick Bosa. ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that Bosa, who is still officially questionable, will likely play tonight. According to Schefter, the 49ers will test Bosa before the game to make sure he is healthy enough, but Bosa is expected to return after missing the last three games.

Bosa and Greenlaw were two of the 49ers’ best players, especially against the run, so having both of them on the field would be a huge asset. It would also go a long way in getting the Rams into third-and-long situations.

As Jason mentioned, Stafford struggles when put under pressure. The best way to beat Los Angeles on obvious passing downs is to win on early downs.

It’s a shame the 49ers won’t have Bartch for the rest of the season. He took full advantage of his opportunity and probably would have remained the starter if he had stayed healthy.
