49ers news: Nick Bosa returns to the lineup after missing three games

The San Francisco 49ers are about an hour and a half away from taking on the Los Angeles Rams and the list of inactive players is released. We already knew that Malik Mustapha and Trent Williams wouldn’t play. Here is the full list of inactive people:

QB Josh Dobbs

T Trent Williams (heel/ankle)

S Malik Mustapha (chest/shoulder)

RB Israel Abanikanda

CB Rock Ya Sin

DT Khalil Davis

Edge rusher Nick Bosa has tested his hip/oblique injury and feels well enough to play. Bosa will return after missing the last three games. Bosa could return at backup left tackle. More on that in a moment.

Running back Isaac Guerendo reportedly planned to play. He was seen on the field warming up before the game. Guerendo gives the 49ers versatility on the ground and in the air on offense. It also helps that his strengths lie in being a zone runner – an area in which the Rams are bottom-10 in defense.

Dre Greenlaw will make his season debut. Whether he starts or how much he plays could depend on the flow of the game and how Greenlaw responds in general. I could imagine Greenlaw spontaneously counting on Thursday evening.

So the defense will have Bosa, Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga again. Ji’Ayir Brown will likely take Mustapha’s place in the secondary.

Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles returns after playing hard on Wednesday. He has been out since week 4. DFF’s presence will be felt on special teams.

The Los Angeles Rams are devastated. Cornerback Cobie Durant was ruled out. In a difficult secondary, Durant was the only bright spot, allowing just a 48.8 percent completion rate on 43 targets. The Rams will start either Emmanuel Forbes or our old friend Ahkello Witherspoon from the Washington Commanders.

Rookie center Beaux Limmer has missed just one game this season and will play after being limited this week with a knee injury. But the big problem remains Alaric Jackson. He appeared on the injury report Wednesday with a new knee injury after not being listed on Monday or Tuesday. He was excluded.

So what will the Rams do at left tackle? They could be forced to start a player out of position. Whoever it is, it’s beneficial for the 49ers, especially Bosa. But if the Rams can’t block, which they struggled to do in the last meeting these two teams played, Matthew Stafford’s month-long interception streak could come to an end.

Jackson is active, but how effective will he be? Here is the Rams’ inactive list:

QB Stetson Bennett

CB Cobie Durant

RB Cody Schrader

OLB Brennan Jackson

OL Dylan McMahon

OL Warren McClendon Jr.
