7 Days of Giving to Support Local Nonprofits in New York City and the Tri-State Region

NEW YORK (WABC) – ‘Tis the season for giving and ABC7 is proud to launch our 7 Days of Giving campaign on Giving Tuesday.

Next week we’ll feature another New York City area nonprofit and the many ways you can get involved to help your neighbors.

Food Bank for NYC

Food Bank for New York City is the largest hunger relief organization in New York City, providing 100 million meals to New Yorkers in need each year.

An estimated 1.2 million people in NYC don’t know where their next meal is coming from, and rising costs are forcing some families to make difficult decisions about their money.

Every dollar donated can provide up to five meals for New Yorkers in need. Your donation also helps ensure our neighbors throughout the five boroughs have access to nutritious food and services.

Save the rest of the kitchen

As someone who suffered from food insecurity as a child, Robert Lee was intimately familiar with the issues of food waste and hunger facing our society. That’s why, in the summer of 2013, he founded Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) in New York City, a nonprofit organization dedicated to both preventing food waste and ending hunger.

In 2014, he left his full-time job at JP Morgan to run RLC full-time. To do this, he used the seed capital he and his co-founder Louisa Chen won in a venture competition during their senior year at NYU, as well as corporate donations from his former employer. In the decade since, RLC has expanded to nine regions and saved over 18 million pounds of surplus food.
