7 earthquakes struck the region Monday morning, one appearing 150 miles away, reports USGS | News

MARSTON, Mo. (WSIL) – A total of seven earthquakes struck the area Monday morning.

The United State Geological Survey (USGS) recorded six quakes in southeast Missouri and another in Lake County, Tennessee.

The quakes have a magnitude of 1.8 to 3.0.

Below is a chronological list of earthquakes according to the USGS…

December 9th, 12:50 p.m

  • Magnitude 2.0
  • Approximately 4 miles east-southeast of Hayward, Missouri.
  • The depth is 7.5 miles

December 9th, 12:27 am

  • Magnitude 3.0
  • 2.5 miles west of Howardville
  • The depth is 5 miles
  • During this earthquake, six people said they were shaking. Two people from Lilbourn, one from Marston, one from Portageville, one from Macedonia and one from Evansville, Indiana, which is about 150 miles away.

December 9th, 4:27 am

  • Size 2.1
  • 2.5 miles west of Howardville
  • The depth is 5 miles

December 9th, 5:31 am

  • Magnitude 1.8
  • 1 mile (1.6 km) south-southwest of Ridgely, Tennessee
  • The depth is 5 miles

December 9th, 6:25 am

  • Magnitude 1.9
  • 2.5 miles west-southwest of Howardville
  • The depth is about 5 miles

December 9th, 7:30 a.m

  • Magnitude 2.2
  • Less than a mile north of Marston
  • The depth is 5 miles

December 9th, 8:50 a.m

  • Magnitude 2.2
  • 5 miles east-southeast of Matthews, Missouri
  • The depth is 12 miles
