Vikrant Massey’s sudden retirement announcement on December 1 left fans heartbroken. In his Instagram post, the actor revealed that he would be concentrating on his roles as husband, father and son for the foreseeable future and retiring from acting. Amid his retirement news, an earlier statement by Vikrant Massey has resurfaced online in which he expressed concern for the safety of his 9-month-old son Vardhaan.

The actor had recently expressed his fears during the promotional campaign for The Sabarmati Report, which sparked controversy due to its sensitive subject matter – the Godhra train fire incident in 2002. In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar on his YouTube channel, Vikrant revealed that he has received threats on social media and WhatsApp, even targeting his young son.

He said: “It’s just social media, WhatsApp and other threats. Yeh log jaante hain ki main 9 mahine pehle ek bacche ka pita bana hoon. Mera baccha jo theek se chal bhi nahi pata, uska naam beech mein liya ja raha hai. Uski suraksha ke liye mujhe chinta mein daala ja raha hai. Hum kis samaj mein jee rahe hain? Afsos hota hai, dar nahi lagta. Agar dar lagta, toh hum yeh film banake bahar laate hi nahi.” (I have received threats on social media and WhatsApp. These people know that I became a father 9 months ago. They are dragging my little son into this. I am worried about his safety. What a society we are ?Living in? It’s discouraging, but not scary. If I had been afraid, we wouldn’t have made this film and released it to the public.)

The Sabarmati Report stars Vikrant alongside Raashi Khanna and Riddhi Dogra. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna. The film deals with the tragic fire of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express and its consequences. Despite the controversy, the film received critical acclaim and was screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2024. Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also met the cast and praised the efforts of the film.

The film, which released on November 15, has been declared tax-free in several states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and has grossed Rs 22 crore at the national box office.
