Most actors work hard for years before achieving significant recognition or financial prosperity. To be rich enough to afford a house in a city like Mumbai at the age of 24 is an extraordinary achievement for an actor. It’s rare for them to lose all their money in a year and rely on their pocket money to give auditions. Yes, this is the story of one such actor who had to go through a lot of hardships in his career just to achieve stardom for a long time.

We’re talking about none other than Vikrant Massey. He was once India’s biggest television star who quit television at the peak of his career. He made his acting debut in 2007 with Dhoom Machao Dhoom and later gained wide recognition with roles in Balika Vadhu and Dharam Veer. At the peak of his career, the actor earned a whopping Rs 35 lakh from his work on television.

During a conversation on Samdish’s Unfiltered, Vikrant shared, “My parents were shocked when I told them that I am starting over in the film industry. I made a lot of money. At the age of 24, I was earning 35 lakh per month, especially for someone who comes from middle class. I quit TV when I had a contract of 35 lakh per month in hand. I decided to do good work and find peace.”

Vikrant revealed that after quitting television, his savings were exhausted within a year. At that time, his wife Sheetal (his girlfriend at the time) supported him with pocket money for auditions.

Eventually, Vikrant landed small roles in films like Lootera (2013) and Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), which helped him gain recognition. He made his breakthrough with the critically acclaimed film “A Death in the Gunj” (2017). This opened up more opportunities for him and he started getting bigger roles in films like Chhapaak, Haseen Dilruba and the web series Mirzapur. In 2023, Massey starred in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ’12th Fail’, a sleeper hit that grossed Rs 69 crore at the box office. This year, the actor was highly praised for his amazing performance in Sector 36.

Vikrant Massey talks about his personal life and reveals how he grew up in an extremely secular family. His parents had an interfaith marriage – his father is Christian and his mother is Sikh. His brother Moeen converted to Islam. He is married to Sheetal Thakur, a Hindu. The actor said that his family celebrates all festivals and respects each other’s religion.
