Snow is coming to the city, but how much and when?

Snow is coming to the city, but how much and when?

With parts of New York still covered in snow since Thanksgiving, more wintry weather is expected Wednesday afternoon through Friday.

A clipper system will pass north of the region late Wednesday into Thursday morning, bringing snow to the area with very variable accumulations and impacts across the area. An Arctic front will push through Thursday morning with snow squalls that could lead to a short but particularly dangerous travel period. Wind gusts of 40-50 mph are possible Thursday, with windy, cold conditions continuing through Friday.

-Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, windy and cold. Limited snow impacts throughout the day, dry in the morning. Areas north of the Capital Region will see patchy, light snow in the afternoon and evening, particularly in a band from the southern Adirondacks to the Lake George-Saratoga region into Vermont. A gusty south wind up to 25 miles per hour. Temperatures in the 30s but feeling like the 20s

-Wednesday Night: Many areas will see the heaviest snow when driving conditions are slow and slick. The greatest impacts will be in the northern strip and Catskills and throughout western New England, with limited snowfall in the Capital Region

-Thursday: The morning Arctic frontal passage could be disrupted for the commuter period due to heavy snow squalls with gusts of 40 mph, brief whiteouts and rapid accumulations of up to 1 inch of snow. Traveling is particularly dangerous at this time. Valleys then dry out and additional lake and mountain snow occurs in the Catskills, Adirondacks and throughout western New England. Temperatures are around 30°C, but fall in the afternoon

-Friday: Windy, cold, 20% chance of snow showers, 20 seconds

-Saturday: Windy, cold, 20% chance of snow showers, low 30s

-Sunday: Mostly dry, above 30 °C, therefore warmer
