Kylian Mbappe failed to convert his penalty on Wednesday, reaching a new low for Real Madrid.
Kylian Mbappe’s highly publicized move to Real Madrid in June ended a seven-year transfer saga. But the move didn’t work out according to the club’s plan as the French striker is in poor shape. Last week, Mbappe came under fire after missing a penalty in his side’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League. On Wednesday he scored another penalty for Madrid against Athletic Club.
But the Frenchman missed his penalty again as Real Madrid suffered a 2-1 defeat. Bilbao took the lead in the 53rd minute through Alejandro Remiro, and then Mbappe missed the penalty that could have tied the game.

Jude Bellingham equalized for Madrid in the 78th minute, but the celebration was short-lived as Gorka Guruzeta scored the late winner for Bilbao in a 2-1 win.
This means that Real Madrid is still four points behind leaders Barcelona. After the game, Mbappe wrote on social media: “Bad result. A big mistake in a game where every detail counts. I take full responsibility for this. A difficult moment, but it is the best time to change this situation and show who I am.”
Meanwhile, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said: “I haven’t spoken to him. I shouldn’t judge a player’s game based on a penalty. Sometimes you score, sometimes you don’t. Of course he is sad and disappointed, but we have to move on. In football, people make mistakes.”
“He is not at his best level but we have to give him time to adapt. He scored ten goals, he can do better and he is working on doing better. He took the responsibility to take them on and that’s not the case.” “But in football it can happen,” he added.
Mbappe was announced as a Madrid player on June 3rd. 9 jersey previously worn by legend Karim Benzema. His presentation at the Santiago Bernabeu was attended by 80,000 fans, as many as Cristiano Ronaldo’s presentation in 2009.
