McDonald’s has just confirmed that this “cult” favorite menu item will be returning

The snack wrap is coming back!

In a new interview with Good morning America On Thursday, December 5, McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger confirmed that the once-discontinued menu favorite will return in 2025. The announcement came after George Stephanopoulos asked Erlinger on air to reveal “the secret” of the next recurring menu item.

“The snack wrap will be available again in 2025,” said Erlinger. “It has cult status. I get so many emails about this product in my inbox. It will be available again in 2025.”

“It does (it has a cult following). It really is,” he added, before clarifying that he could not reveal the “exact” return date for “competitive reasons.”

The original snack wrap — which consisted of chicken, lettuce and shredded cheese in a tortilla, with either ranch or honey mustard — was discontinued back in 2016. The product first appeared on McDonald’s menus nationwide in 2006.

This isn’t the first time McDonald’s has announced its intention to launch another chicken wrap. Although McDonald’s did not announce a return to Snack Wrap at the time, it did reveal the expansion of its McCrispy line in a December 2023 press release and said it intended to “offer McCrispy in nearly all markets around the world by the end of 2025.” “ – offers both “wraps and deals.”

McDonald’s latest menu update comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) declared that a deadly E. coli outbreak traced to the ingredients in its Quarter Pounders is over.

Back in October, the CDC announced that one person had died and several were hospitalized, and that it – along with the FDA, USDA FSIS and other health organizations – was investigating McDonald’s locations in several states. At the time, McDonald’s chief supply chain officer Cesar Piña said the company “took swift and decisive action following the outbreak.” As of Tuesday, December 3, the investigation was listed as “completed” on the CDC website – the final numbers are 34 hospitalizations and one death in 14 states.

Speaking to GMA, Erlinger said that McDonald’s had “let people down” because the outbreak was linked to raw onion slivers used in the popular sandwich “in approximately 900 restaurants in Colorado and surrounding states.”

“I would like to apologize to all of our customers who were harmed by this incident,” he said. “…We stopped using the supplier facility they came from and we stopped sourcing onions from the farm. The CDC and FDA announcement earlier this week gave us the all clear. The investigation is complete, but the work at McDonald’s is not yet done.”

Erlinger added that the company has “ongoing” work to do to build trust with customers and that food safety is McDonald’s “top priority.”
