James Gunn’s DC Universe officially launches today

DC’s latest premiere in 2024 excitingly marks the official beginning of James Gunns DC Universe. Since Gunn and Peter Safran were announced as co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios in November 2022, the studio has gradually heralded the new era with casting announcements and production updates on DC Universe’s “Chapter One” release schedule. With upcoming episodes like the DCUs Superman movie on the horizon, it seems like there’s a lot to look forward to regarding the franchise.




After a patient two-year wait, fans will finally get their first official taste of the revamped universe with one of DC’s final releases in 2024. The initial ratings and reviews of the program in question certainly look promising currently boasts a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes with 21 reviews until now. A positive start like this is exactly what Gunn and Safran’s DCU needs to win over long-time DCEU fans and capture the attention of a new audience.


DC Universe’s first official release was released today


Creature Commands releases today with a two-episode premiere on Max and the season will consist of seven episodes in total. The series takes place following the events of The Suicide Squad And Peacemaker Season 1This marks the official transition between the DCEU and the DCU. The series introduces new characters to the franchise, as well as characters with ties to previous DCEU story threads, such as Rick Flag Sr. Existing characters such as Sean Gunn’s Weasel and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller also make appearances.

The show is the very first entry in the first era of the DCU. The dialogue and direction of the first two episodes are intended to help the audience understand what parts of it are The Suicide Squad And Peacemaker should still be considered canon after this reboot. The anticipation will only grow from here as the first DC Universe film’s 2025 release date approaches. A casual yet well-made series like Creature Commands can build whatever world the studio wants to build ahead of its first big film, and show fans what they can expect tonally from future DCU stories.

The next project after that Creature Commands will be Supermanthe first official DCU film entry under “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.” Filming for the film was completed in July 2024 The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. It’s going to be an interesting month, including for the superhero genre The Fantastic Four: Getting Started from Marvel Studios will premiere just a few weeks later, and both films usher in something of a new era for their respective studios.

The pressure is great Superman perform well, and for most people it will be the beginning of the revamped DC Universe. However, Creature Commands will always be the official first entry in the DCU and is a project worth checking out for those excited about the future. The stellar early reviews of the premiere episodes are an impressive achievement for the series, and if Creature Commands is a sign of what is to come, then DC Universe is in good hands.

The DC Universe is one of the largest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics began as National Allied Publications and was founded in 1935 by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comics, films, television shows and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent series of superheroes when Zack Snyder introduced Henry Cavill as Superman. After several films with mixed reviews, DC had a soft reboot under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
