Prattville officials are removing Prattville Pride Float from the Christmas parade, citing safety concerns

This morning Prattville city officials decided to exclude the Prattville Pride float from participating in the Christmas parade scheduled for Friday.

The EAN was sent this press release stating, “This morning the City was made aware by Prattville Pride that there are serious safety concerns regarding Prattville Pride’s participation in the Christmas parade.” To date, there has been only conjecture and speculation about possible safety concerns that Prattville Pride’s participation in the parade could cause. The city will not put the rights of parade participants above the safety of its citizens. Due to safety concerns for Prattville Pride, other parade participants, and bystanders, the city has decided to exclude Prattville Pride from the Christmas parade. This decision was made after careful consideration and consideration, balancing the rights of parade participants and the overall safety of everyone involved in the parade. The City will always respect freedoms and the right to freedom of expression. However, as in this case, it must put the overall safety of its citizens first.” Mayor Bill Gillespie, Jr.

Prattville Pride was also reached for comment: “At this time Prattville Pride has no comment, we have retained an attorney,” said Adam Hunt, President of Prattville Pride.

Some have begun targeting the young man who tried to ride on the float disguised as a woman, identifying him and publishing various photos. A national media outlet published a photo of the young man identifying him by his stage name.

Some have called for a boycott of the parade, while other organizations have said they do not plan to participate.
