NBA coach praises New York Knicks star

The New York Knicks are powered by Jalen Brunson leading the offense as they climbed to first place in the league.

Even when the Knicks faced the Orlando Magic, who themselves have a top-three defense, Brunson was able to prevail.

“They would be physical. I’ve known (Magic) coach (Jamahl) Mosley for a long time. He always paid attention to defense. That’s what they do. They play well on both sides of the ball, but defensively they are statistically the best right now,” Brunson said in Posting and Toasting.

Mosley has often been in the same circles as Brunson, most recently with Team USA in the summer of 2023, which competed in the FIBA World Cup. Mosley also coached Brunson while both were with the Dallas Mavericks from 2018-21.

Although Mosley prepared intensively for Brunson, the Knicks point guard came away with the victory.

“He just finds a way to manipulate (the defense). You give him two, he finds the right pass. You don’t put him in pairs, he goes one-on-one, he isolates you in the middle of the floor. Step-back threes once he reaches mid-range, he has amazing footwork for the step-throughs and touch shots. “So he just finds ways,” Mosley said of Brunson. “He just constantly embraces himself and does exactly what’s right for the team when it comes to winning basketball games.”

As a member of the Knicks, Brunson has consistently turned his back on opposing coaches for a long time, and the fact that he continues to elevate his game is a testament to how good he is.

Brunson and the Knicks are back in action tonight as they host the Charlotte Hornets. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
