Ja Morant is done with dunking because it’s too risky: “Two points are two points”

Ja Morant will not put himself at risk for your entertainment.

The Memphis Grizzlies star has become known for his flashy, high-flying dunks, but the 25-year-old now claims that era is over – because it’s not worth the potential injury.

“I try not to dunk at all,” Morant said. “You all think I’m lying. I’m absolutely serious.”

Last month, Morant was hit in the air by Los Angeles Lakers center Christian Koloko as he attempted to catch an alley-oop. The incident caused him to miss eight games due to a partial posterior hip subluxation and multiple pelvic muscle strains.

“Sometimes I get knocked out and (a foul) isn’t called, and now I’m out longer than I should be,” Morant said. “Sometimes the foul is called. I still fall on the floor, but after the game you might feel that little fall. So I just pick and choose, man. Hey, two points are two points. I can do it. That’s all.” Affairs.”

Therefore, he should not constantly give up diving – especially when he senses potential danger. And you can forget about the theatrics too. Morant had a breakaway dunk in Tuesday’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks. But the crowd whistled as he carefully let the ball fall through the net instead of doing anything noticeable.

“Hey, I’m okay with that,” Morant told reporters. “Keep booing me. Hey, I got two points. It was still a dunk. It just wasn’t the dunk they wanted to see. But if they boo me for a little rimgrazer, I’m okay with that.”

Back in 2021, Morant said that he would only consider participating in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest if he received $1 million for it. It sounds like not even a huge pile of money would be enough to convince him.

“If I chill in the in-game, you don’t have to worry about the dunk contest,” Morant told reporters on Tuesday. “Man, my focus right now is doing what I can with the team and continuing to try to get to 100 percent (healthy).”

Morant is averaging 22 points, 4.1 rebounds and 8.6 assists in 27.7 minutes for the Grizzlies so far this season. He dunked four times in 12 games.
