Chris Weidman | Stand the test of time

Chris Weidman | Stand the test of time

“My leg is doing great,” he said, answering a question that will stay with him for the rest of his career. “I play with it a lot and don’t really think about it much. In my last fight I managed to get that monkey off my back and threw a whole series of leg kicks, body kicks and head kicks with my right leg. That gave me a lot of confidence because in the fight before I thought I could do it, but I couldn’t. My body or brain wouldn’t allow it, but I’m glad I did it.”

That suggests Weidman will be back to his best on Saturday when he takes on Anders again. But how many more times will we see him? He doesn’t set a timetable for this.

“I don’t really know,” he said. “I take it fight by fight, see what’s on the table, look at the pros and cons and then make decisions based on that. I feel good at the moment, I feel good about this training camp and I still feel like I can compete with the best. It will be over soon, and I don’t want to stop myself from doing great things if I still feel like I’m capable of them. It’s definitely going to be over sooner or later, but I’m just going to try to make the best of it and do the best I can and then when it’s over, it’s over.”
