Alexander Volkov slams judge for ‘bulls–t decision’ in controversial UFC 310 loss

Alexander Volkov isn’t sure what the cageside judges saw during his rematch with Ciryl Gane at UFC 310.

Volkov dropped a controversial split decision to Gane in the heavyweight main event Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. While the first meeting in June 2021 was a clear win for the Frenchman, Volkov seemed to make the necessary adjustments the second time around. When the final verdict was announced, even Gane seemed confused by the verdict as he tried to leave the Octagon without even giving an interview after the fight.

“I saw his team’s eyes, and they didn’t expect this,” Volkov said during his post-fight media scrum (video via MMAjunkie.com). “They didn’t expect the decision and he was upset, so my respect to Ciryl Gane. He wasn’t like someone who just left the cage after the decision because he didn’t feel it either. Nothing bad for my opponent, I just don’t accept it with the commission. I can’t agree with that.”

According to the official scorecards released by the UFC, referees Adalaide Byrd and Junichiro Kamijo both scored in Gane’s favor in the first two rounds, which ultimately led to “Bon Gamin” winning via split decision. Meanwhile, Eric Colon posted a 29-28 record for Volkov.

“It was definitely a bullshit decision,” Wolkow said. “I don’t know what we’re going to do with the decision. I am absolutely sure that I won the fight. I did a lot more than Gane in the whole fight. I don’t know who scored this fight with him, who the judges are, how they decide it… I don’t see any harm from him to me and I don’t understand why he won the fight.”

The 36-year-old Volkov had won his last four UFC matches before Saturday night, including a victory over former interim title challenger Sergei Pavlovich last June. The disappointing result at UFC 310 slowed the former Bellator and M-1 Global champion’s momentum, but he was able to find some comfort in the fact that UFC CEO Dana White was in his corner. The two were seen chatting shortly after Volkov left the Octagon.

“He said ‘sorry for my English,’ I was ‘fed up with the judges,’ something like that,” Volkov said. “I appreciate it to the heads of the UFC, they have seen everything with their own eyes and have a similar opinion, but they cannot influence the commission…”
