Donald Trump has revealed that Prince William told him that King Charles III. is “battling very hard” as his cancer treatment continues – and the Princess of Wales is “doing well”.

The US president-elect also said they had a “great conversation for a little over half an hour” in Paris and described the bearded prince as “very handsome.”

Mr Trump met the Prince of Wales for talks after both attended the ceremonial reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral following a devastating fire in 2019.

They spoke at the British ambassador’s residence on Saturday, and Mr. Trump later revealed more about their conversation in an interview with the New York Post.

After completing her cancer treatment in September, Kate is gradually returning to public events and joined her husband William and their children at Westminster Abbey last Friday for their annual Christmas service, Together at Christmas.

Meanwhile, the king has stoically continued his royal duties in recent months, having announced his own cancer diagnosis in February after it was discovered while he was being treated in hospital for an enlarged prostate.

Mr Trump told the Post: “I had a great conversation with the prince.” And I asked him about his wife and he said she was fine. And I asked him about his father and his father fights very hard, and he loves his father and he loves his wife, so it was sad.”

He added: “We had a great conversation for half an hour, just over half an hour. “We had a great, great conversation.

“He’s a good-looking guy.” He looked really, really good last night. Some people look better in person? He looked great. He looked really nice and I told him so.’

Earlier, the couple shook hands and greeted each other in front of photographers before Trump turned to reporters and said: “Wow, what a nice group.”

Then he pointed to the prince and said, “Good man, this one.”

William asked the president-elect if he warmed up after the event, and Mr. Trump replied that he had and that “it was a beautiful ceremony.”

The two men stood side by side, facing reporters, and Mr. Trump said “Hello, everyone,” before giving a thumbs-up to William and adding, “He’s doing a fantastic job.”

After speaking in the entrance of the building, they went upstairs to begin their meeting.

Mr Trump and William sat on bright yellow sofas in the Salon Jaune, which featured gold patterned wallpaper, a Christmas tree in the corner and a chandelier in the ceiling.

Before the meeting began, William said, “We can warm up after the cathedral,” and Mr. Trump smiled and replied, “Right, you’re right.”

The two paused in front of the cameras for a few seconds before Mr Trump said: “Thank you everyone.”

Kensington Palace said the couple discussed a range of global issues during their 40-minute meeting but focused on the importance of U.K.-U.S. relations, with the president-elect sharing fond memories of the late Queen Elizabeth II .

Earlier in the cathedral, Mr Trump patted William on the shoulder before they shook his hand.

The last time the prince met the 78-year-old was in 2019, when the then-president visited the United Kingdom on a state visit.

William was warmly welcomed in the rainy French capital by President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron.

The prince also spoke to outgoing American first lady Jill Biden at the ceremony.

He was expected to speak to Mr Trump and Ms Biden about the importance of US-UK relations.

Mr Trump made no mention of discussing William’s estranged brother Prince Harry, having previously warned he would not receive special privileges in America.

Mr Trump has harshly criticized the Duke of Sussex since his departure from Britain in 2020, criticizing him for the “unforgivable betrayal” of his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

In March, he also suggested that Harry – who lives in Montecito, California – could be deported from the US if his drug use was not disclosed on his visa application.

It comes as an American think tank is trying to reopen its case to make Harry’s secret visa application public after he admitted in his memoirs to taking drugs.

Back in September 2020, shortly after Harry and his wife Meghan Markle moved to the US, the couple called on American voters in that year’s election, which was ultimately won by Joe Biden, to “reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity “.

Although the Sussexes did not endorse any candidate, the wording of their video message sparked accusations that they had referred to Mr. Trump, violating British protocol for maintaining the political neutrality of members of the royal family.

As for William, his last official visit to Paris was in 2017, when he traveled with his wife Kate for a two-day trip following the Brexit result.

Earlier this year, he joined world leaders in Normandy to attend commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in World War II.

Notre Dame’s reopening included the ritualized opening of the cathedral’s massive doors, the reawakening of its thundering organ, and the celebration of the first mass.

Tickets for the first week of the fair were sold out within 25 minutes, said the cathedral’s rector.
