Emilia Perez, The Bear main nominee

Emilia Perez, The Bear main nominee

“Emilia Pérez” has a lot more singing and dancing to do, scoring 10 nominations when the 2025 Golden Globe Awards nominations were announced on Monday.

Jacques Audiard’s charming drug cartel musical, which Netflix acquired at the Cannes Film Festival this year, won the most awards of any feature nominee, including best theatrical musical or comedy, best director for Audiard and best supporting actress for Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez, best actress for Karla Sofia Gascón, best screenplay and best original music.

Not far behind is Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” a stirring A24 drama about the trials of a Hungarian architect under the thumb of an enigmatic art patron. Lead actors Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones received not only the Best Drama award but also acting nominations, and Guy Pearce received a supporting actor nomination. The project also won awards in the score and screenplay categories. That’s a total of 7, one more than the haul of another top contender – Focus Features’ “Conclave.”

Ralph Fiennes is a frontrunner for the nomination for best actor in a drama for his portrayal of a conflicted priest who oversees a papal election filled with sabotage and subplots. His co-star Isabella Rossellini received the supporting actress award, with the film winning for score, screenplay and best picture.

Other notable films of the year that received four or more Globe nominations include “Anora,” “Challengers,” “A Real Pain,” the Universal juggernaut “Wicked” and the surprise of Monday morning’s announcement – “The Substance.” by Coralie Fargeat. including Best Musical or Comedy Film, Lead Actress for Demi Moore, Supporting Actress for Margaret Qualley and Best Director.

The year was also strong in terms of double (and triple!) nominations. Sebastian Stan is nominated for best actor in a motion picture in both the comedy/musical (“A Different Man”) and the drama (“The Apprentice”). Kate Winslet was known in the lead role of the biopic “Lee” and as a television actress in the anthology or short version of “The Regime” by HBO. Selena Gomez received a nomination for best supporting actress in a motion picture for “Emilia Pérez” and for a musical or comedy in a television series for Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” Maestro Audiard of “Emilia Pérez” received nominations for directing, screenplay and his contributions to the original song “El Mal.”

More will follow. The full list of nominees can be found below.
