CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota talks about leaving the network on-air after shocking exit announcement

Former CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota speaks out after her sudden exit from the network.

“Before we go, I just wanted to take a moment on this very busy news day to share some personal news. This is my last day on the air at CNN,” Camerota, 58, said before the CNN Newsroom concluded on Sunday, Dec. 8. “I’ve had such incredible opportunities in my decade-plus here, interviewing presidents and heroes and extraordinary people – the kind of career highlights I’d dreamed of since I was a teenager.”

Camerota also praised her fellow CNN journalists, calling them “the very best in the entire news industry.”

“It is an honor to have been her colleague,” she continued. “I am also honored to have experienced some of the greatest stories of our lives in your home over the last decade.”

She concluded her message by encouraging viewers to follow her on Instagram for updates on her career.

“To my dear friends at CNN, thank you for all the laughter we shared, for everything you have taught me about the power of journalism, and for making my time here so deeply rewarding,” concluded Camerata. “I wish you all a happy holiday and see you soon.”

Further details regarding the reason for Camerota’s exit were not disclosed. She announced her departure from CNN in an Instagram caption before going live on Sunday.

“Big news, everyone! – Today is my last day at CNN,” she wrote. “Tune in at 4:50 pm (ET) for my farewell. Keep it here for updates!”

In a second Instagram post, Camerota shared a video of her taking off her earbud.

“That’s over!” she captioned the clip. “It was a true honor.”

Camerota called it her “last time at CNN” and noted that she may return when there is “important breaking news.”

“I am on the way to new horizons. I’ll just pass on this wisdom. New horizons are great if you’re ready for them,” she said. “There were times in my life when I wasn’t ready to leave a place I loved and that was really sad and really hard. But I think I’m ready to leave this place I loved.”

CNN CEO Mark Thompson He also addressed Camerota’s departure in a statement on Sunday.

“Alisyn is a rare talent with the ability to interview leaders and everyday heroes with strength and empathy,” he said diversity. “She has been a wonderful colleague at CNN for more than a decade and we will support her in her new roles, where she is sure to have great success.”
