Sounders in advanced talks to acquire Jesus Ferreira

According to sources at Sounder at Heart, the Seattle Sounders are in serious talks with FC Dallas about acquiring Jesus Ferreira in a trade. It wasn’t immediately clear what the Sounders would be giving up in the move, but it’s believed it will depend on their ability to sign the 23-year-old forward to a contract extension. Currently classified as a young designated player, Ferreira is currently in the final guaranteed year of his contract with an option for 2026.

Ferreira has had a rather weak year with just five goals and six assists in less than 1,400 minutes. Ferreira missed about two months with a muscle strain, but had been relatively healthy beforehand.

While he played primarily as a No. 10 last year, he had great success at both the No. 9 and both wings and would help the Sounders with flexibility.

Even after a poor season, Ferreira has been considered one of the best young offensive talents in the MLS for several years. As a 21-year-old, he enjoyed a breakthrough season, scoring 18 goals and six assists in under 2,700 minutes. Ferreira followed in 2023 with a 12-goal, six-assist season. He now has 53 goals and 34 assists in his young MLS career, in addition to 15 goals in 23 appearances for the U.S. national team.
