Joe Burrow is one of six athletes whose home was broken into. What we know

Joe Burrow’s Anderson Township home was broken into while the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback was in Texas for “Monday Night Football,” the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the incident report, Olivia Ponton, IMG model and influencer, discovered the break-in when she arrived at the apartment. According to the sheriff’s report, Ponton is employed by Burrow.

The break-in occurred between 2:30 p.m. and just after 8 p.m., the report said. It goes on to say that whoever broke into the house entered through a rear first floor window and avoided leaving fingerprints.

According to USA TODAY, the break-in comes less than three weeks after the NFL issued a warning about “organized and sophisticated” criminals targeting athletes’ homes. However, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office could not confirm whether multiple people had broken into Burrow’s home.

Which athletes had their houses broken into?

In early October, the homes of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce were broken into within 48 hours of each other. The teammates were not at their Kansas City-area homes because they were preparing for the Chiefs’ Monday Night Football game against the New Orleans Saints.

Mahomes’ home was reportedly broken into on October 6, but details about what was stolen have not been released, according to CNN.

On October 7th, Kelce’s apartment was broken into. The police report states that $20,000 cash was stolen and there was $1,000 worth of damage to a back door.

According to CNN, the home of Mike Conley Jr., a point guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves, was also broken into on September 15 while the player was at a Minnesota Vikings football game. Jewelry was reportedly taken in the break-in, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune. According to the NFL, the Minnesota home of Linval Joseph, a former Vikings defensive tackle and current Dallas Cowboy, was also broken into in November.

Milwaukee Bucks power forward and center Bobby Portis also stated on social media that most of his “valuable possessions” were stolen from his home in a burglary on November 2nd.

What did the NFL and NBA say about the break-ins?

The NFL sent a memo to all 32 NFL teams in November addressing organized criminals who are increasingly attacking the homes of professional athletes.

“Law enforcement authorities have determined that these groups appear to be exploiting team schedules to attack athletes’ homes on game days,” the memo said.

The memo said groups appear to be gathering information through public records, media reports and social media. Some conduct “extensive surveillance of targets, their residences, neighborhoods and security measures.”

According to the NFL website, the FBI and the league are investigating the crime spree, which is believed to be linked to a South American crime syndicate.

The NBA also sent a similar memo to its players, urging them to take “extra precautions to secure their homes,” ESPN reports. The NBA memo added that the thefts “primarily targeted cash and items that can be resold on the black market, such as jewelry, watches and luxury bags.”

Burrow bought a mansion in suburban Anderson Township for $7.5 million last summer. This was the most expensive home sale of 2023 in Hamilton County, according to the auditor’s website.

The 7,000-square-foot home sits on 3 acres overlooking the Ohio River. The home also has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms and sits on a former horse ranch with an estimated market value of more than $8 million.

Burrow previously owned a home in the Columbia Tusculum neighborhood of Cincinnati.

Details about the break-in at Joe Burrow’s house

The burglary at Burrow’s Anderson Township residence occurred between 2:30 p.m. and just after 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, the incident report states. It goes on to say that whoever broke into the house entered through a rear first floor window and avoided leaving fingerprints.

Ponton discovered the break-in when she arrived at the apartment and told police she found the bedroom window broken and the room ransacked, the report said.

Police arrived at the scene and cleared the house. Detectives also responded to the scene to take photos and collect evidence.

According to the 911 calls, police were on site for security reasons before the break-in was reported.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office cannot yet confirm whether anything was stolen from Burrow’s home. Because Burrow was in Dallas, he could not provide information about what items were taken, the incident report states.

However, Ponton did not provide a detailed list of items that might be missing, the report continued.

The Bengals did not respond to a request for comment.
