Bomb cyclone in Boston? High Wind Warning, Flood Warning in Effect – NBC Boston

Head up! There is an initial warning in the Boston area today. Your NBC10 Boston First Alert Weather Team is recording what could be the wettest day of the year, along with strong, gusty winds.

A frontal system will bring plenty of moisture from our south, causing heavy rain for much of the day. Local flooding is possible. In fact, portions of central and western Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire are under a flood warning from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.

A powerful storm made for a rough commute in New England on Wednesday.

In some communities, as much as 2 to 3 inches of rain fell, and in some cases larger amounts. Remember: turn around and don’t drown.

In addition to the rain, our winds will also increase significantly. A High Wind Warning is in effect for Boston and all of eastern Massachusetts from 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon until 1:00 a.m. Thursday. Some communities may experience wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour. And a wind advisory is in effect for central Massachusetts from Wednesday afternoon until 1 a.m. Thursday. Wind gusts can reach up to 55 miles per hour.

Be careful when driving. Also, make sure any loose items in your yard, from Christmas decorations to trash cans, are either tied down or brought inside.

The rain will ease late Wednesday evening, likely between 11pm and midnight, as a cold front sweeps through the region and moves east.

High temperatures on Wednesday will be in the low to mid 60s. Then our temperatures will plummet on Thursday! In fact, high temperatures fall throughout the day. Afternoon temperatures range from over 30°C to almost 40°C. The wind blows at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.

Cold weather sets in on Friday for the weekend. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s on Friday and Saturday. Our highs will climb back into the upper 30s by Sunday. The weekend looks sunny!
