A winter weather advisory is issued for Ontonagon County through Thursday evening – up to 5 inches of snow

At 2:33 a.m. EST Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Ontonagon County between 7:00 a.m. EST and 7:00 p.m. EST on Thursday.

“Total snow accumulations of up to 5 inches” are expected, according to the weather service. “Intermittent snowfall rates of an inch or more per hour are possible during the commute Thursday morning.”

“The journey could be very difficult. Scattered snow could significantly reduce visibility. The dangerous conditions could impact commuters Thursday morning and evening,” the weather service said. “Monitor the latest forecasts for up-to-date information on this situation. With lake effect snow, the weather can vary from locally heavy bands of snow to dry weather just a few kilometers away. Visibility can also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility and road conditions.”
