Dolphins WR Grant Dubose leaves the field on a stretcher with his jersey cut off after a frightening hit against the Texans

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant Dubose suffered a direct hit to the head Sunday against the Houston Texans and left the field immobilized on a stretcher.

He was diagnosed with a head injury and taken to a local hospital in Houston for further evaluation. The Dolphins announced at the time that his condition was stable. Further details of his injury were unclear.

Dubose remained on the field for several minutes while he received medical attention after the hit. Dolphins players knelt together and surrounded Dubose as he received treatment.

During treatment, medical staff cut off DuBose’s jersey and removed his helmet. They placed him on a backboard and placed several straps around his body, securing his arms to his body. His neck was placed in a splint and he had an oxygen tube in his nose as staff rolled him off the field on a stretcher.

According to footage from the CBS broadcast, DuBose showed no movement as he was rolled off the field. It is unclear whether he was conscious.

The hit came in the third quarter when the Texans had a 20-6 lead. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa targeted DuBose with a pass over the middle of the field on second-and-9.

When the ball arrived, Texas safety Calen Bullock lowered his helmet and made direct contact with DuBose’s head.

DuBose went limp and lay on his back immediately after the hit. Officials punished Bullock for unnecessary rudeness.

DuBose, 23, is a second-year pro who spent his 2023 rookie season on the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad after being selected in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. He played in college at Charlotte.

The Packers released him in August and the Dolphins claimed him off waivers. He has played in two games with Miami this season and made one catch for 13 yards. On Sunday, he made one catch before leaving the game because of his head injury.
