Penn State quarterback Beau Pribula plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal

Penn State quarterback Beau Pribula intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, a source told On3’s Pete Nakos on Sunday evening. According to Nakos, the Nittany Lion passer is not expected to be with the team for the College Football Playoff. Head coach James Franklin’s program is a No. 6 seed and will face SMU in the first round. Kickoff is scheduled for December 21st at 12pm ET. TNT will televise the game from Beaver Stadium.

Pribula completed 26 of 35 passes for 275 yards, five touchdowns and one interception this season. He also ran 38 times for 260 yards and four scores. He was the Lions’ backup player the last two seasons. If he ultimately decides not to attend the Lions’ college football playoff game against the Mustangs, freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer will likely be the team’s backup quarterback. Penn State could have a redshirt freshman Jaxon Smolik back in use. However, his status has not been updated since September 25th.

“Jaxon can only do what you’ve seen so far,” Franklin said. “He has permission to throw pat-and-gos before the game. So that’s exactly where he’s at.”

Pribula took advantage of the opportunity and led the Lions on the road over Wisconsin earlier this year when Allar was out. Without this win there probably wouldn’t be a spot in the playoffs.

“I’m proud of him,” Franklin said after the game. “He’s a winner. He embraces his role and fights every week to become the starting quarterback. Plays with his feet, his mind and his arm. I couldn’t be prouder of him. He’s a great player and he’s selfless in a time in college football when a lot of people are selfish.”

Pribula added:

“My coach, Danny O’Brien, is doing a great job of keeping the mindset that gets us ready to go. So it really wasn’t difficult. I just had to settle in a little. My teammates were behind me. Luckily we’ll be walking out of here with a dub. It was a great atmosphere.

“I didn’t want to let my teammates down. We work too hard to give up something like this. Just come in and do my job, that’s all I have to do. Keep those victories going.”
