Salt Lake City police officer arrested for alleged sexual assault

AMERICAN FORK, Utah – A Salt Lake City police officer was booked into the Utah County Jail for sexually assaulting a woman in American Fork over the weekend.

Zander Nunley, 26, was arrested Wednesday by American Fork Police Department officers on charges of object rape, aggravated strangulation, forcible sodomy and forcible sexual abuse.

Nunley has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Court documents indicate that Nunley and the victim met on a dating app weeks before they met to watch a “religious Christmas service” at Nunley’s townhouse in American Fork on Sunday evening.

While watching the program, the victim reported that Nunley became sexually and physically aggressive and noted that she was being strangled to the point where her breathing was affected. The victim also reported that Nunley did not ask for consent at any point during the incident.

Court documents also state that the victim had visible bruising in several places.

In a statement, Brent Weisberg, communications director for the Salt Lake City Police Department, said: “The allegations in this case are serious and contradict our core values.”
