A new Netflix miniseries titled “La Palma” has left social media users angry over what one person described as “another mediocre offering.”

Several X and Instagram users have not stopped writing about La Palma since its publication on December 12th.

The Norwegian miniseries centers on a real Spanish island off the coast of Africa and focuses on the chaos caused by signs of volcanic eruptions that could trigger a tsunami.

Despite being at the top of Netflix’s most-watched series list, the show left several viewers with mixed reviews – viewers were either scared, anxious or bored.

“Basically La Palma on Netflix has completely destroyed the tourism industry because I know for a fact I will definitely never go there #lapalmanetflix,” one X user wrote.

At least two X users were intrigued by the series’ natural disaster theme and were more interested in the subject matter than the actual show.

“‘La Palma’ on Netflix got me reading about climate change, volcanic eruptions and the Canary Islands,” one X user tweeted.

Although some critics have praised the show for its visuals and storyline, that hasn’t stopped social media users from criticizing La Palma’s characters.

“The Netflix series La Palma about a volcano eruption and a tsunami is perhaps the worst series I’ve ever seen. And I see some very bad things, eh,” wrote one X user.

Although some social media users had nothing against the show, one person insisted that watching the show was the “best four hours” of their life.

““La Palma” on Netflix is really worth watching. “Nothing groundbreaking, but well done,” wrote one X user.

The miniseries begins with a family of four arriving for what they believe will be a fun vacation in the Canary Islands.

Despite a major room upgrade, the difficult side of the relationship between parents Fredrik (Anders Baasmo) and Jennifer (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) comes to the fore.

As Fredrik and Jennifer end their quiet argument, geologists Marie (Thea Sofie Loch Næss) and Haukur (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) discover the devastation that can result from inevitable volcanic disturbances.

A series of earthquakes shakes the area and a plane that was supposed to be carrying Fredrik and Jennifer’s daughter disappears in a volcanic cloud.

The four loved ones miraculously survive, but the emotional problems within the family and the natural disasters caused all four to separate.

Television critics who saw La Palma generally praised the show.

Chris Joyce, a critic for the YouTube channel Movies and Munchies, didn’t like the character development but praised the “stunning visuals.”

“The contrast between the family’s happy holiday mood and the impending danger that none of them can fathom is an interesting thing,” wrote television expert Archi Sengupta for Leisure Byte.

“It adds more drama and tension to the narrative and allows us to have different perspectives that give viewers the full extent of the disaster.”

The critic added that La Palma was “fun and worth seeing” and fans made watching it a “terrifying reality”.

Another critic stated that the episodes of La Palma contained things that viewers had seen before, but were not “covered with a lot of melodrama”.

“La Palma is a fairly typical disaster piece, but a relatively small main cast and a lack of melodrama make the series worth watching, especially because the season only has four episodes and a little over three hours of running time,” wrote critic Joel Keller for Decider.
