Pittsburgh will see light snow Friday morning before more precipitation this weekend

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – There was light snow in Western Pennsylvania this morning as a low level of disturbance prevails across the region.

It will take some time for the disturbance causing this snow to subside, but models expect most of this activity to end by 8-9am. While total accumulations will be very small (less than 0.5 inches) in most locations, motorists should be alert for slippery areas on the roads.

Skies will become partly cloudy later today as drier air moves in from the northwest.

Highs will reach mid 20s to lower 30s and temperatures will remain cold as high pressure from the Arctic regions continues.

The flow will gradually shift northeast and then east tomorrow, resulting in a descending wind off the Laurel Highlands and Ridges. This is likely to result in temperatures rising back to the mid 30s to lower 40s on Saturday afternoon and skies gradually becoming increasingly cloudy.

The next disturbance is expected to occur on Sunday, with rainfall beginning mid-morning to midday. The Laurel Highlands and areas along I-80 could see freezing rain early in the precipitation, then the warmer air will see full rain through Sunday evening and overnight.

Milder air will continue to move in on Sunday, with highs in the low 50s early next week. The next cold front will arrive Monday night into Tuesday, with more rain and falling temperatures Tuesday into Wednesday.
