There is no discontent between veteran Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins and rookie signal-caller Michael Penix Jr. after the team swapped the former player for the latter on Tuesday.

In fact, Penix told reporters at a press conference Wednesday that he looks up to Cousins, who he says “can do no wrong,” according to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi.

The Falcons signed Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract in March before adding Penix with the No. 8 draft pick a month later. It was an interesting situation to say the least, but it’s clear that the two get along well. Additionally, Penix mentioned what he learned from Cousins during their time in Atlanta.

Cousins spoke to reporters earlier in the day and noted his conversation with Penix after the move (h/t Reggie Chatman of 11Alive News).

Cousins also said that Penix was “great” and that he was “ready to put in the work and play well.” When asked how he will support Penix, the 13-year veteran said the move doesn’t change the quarterback room’s preparations that much since they always work together throughout the week anyway.

This is a monumental moment for Penix, who takes over a 7-7 Falcons team that is one game behind the 8-6 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and in first place in the NFC South with three games left.

Penix was asked about the moment he found out he would be the starter (h/t Ken Sugiura of the). Atlanta Journal Constitution).

Penix added that he would get a hot dog, but the hunger went away when he heard he would be QB1, according to Mary Alex Anders of Fox 5 Sports.

Penix and the Falcons will face the New York Giants at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
