School Closings in West Michigan

Many West Michigan schools are canceling classes on Friday due to slippery road conditions.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Some West Michigan schools are canceling classes Friday due to deteriorating road conditions.

It started snowing on Thursday afternoon and snowfall increased around 10 p.m. With plenty of snow already on the ground, much of West Michigan will face slippery roads during the morning commute.

Another 2 to 3 inches of snow is possible this morning before the snow tapers off this afternoon. Once the roads are cleared, travel will be much easier with only minor impacts expected during the evening commute.

In Newaygo County, a 50-car pileup occurred during the Thursday evening commute due to slick road conditions. No one was injured, but officials are asking drivers to slow down and be careful.

Additional slides were also reported around West Michigan.
