Record numbers of travelers are expected over the holidays

Record numbers of travelers on the roads and in the air are expected for this year’s holidays. Traffic in New Hampshire was steady and slow in places Friday evening due to light snowfall. AAA predicted that nearly 120 million people will travel more than 50 miles during the Christmas and New Year holidays. That’s 3 million more than last year. Most of these travelers set off. AAA recommends planning ahead and giving yourself a little extra time to get to your destination. Drivers will share the road with more than 100 million fellow travelers. “Every year the number of travelers increases around these big holidays – Thanksgiving, July, December holidays,” said Dan Goodman of AAA Northern New England. “We think this is due to lower gas prices in New Hampshire. We pay about 20 cents less than we did a year ago.” AAA recommends traveling early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the worst of the traffic. Sunday is expected to be the busiest travel day.
