Both hits were preceded by serious mistakes. Before Munich took the lead, Willi Orban had played the ball into the feet of Joshua Kimmich, while on the other side Min-jae Kim had to let the nimble Lois Openda run – when his cross came in, Dayot Upamecano was not close enough to Sesko after a stumble.

“We showed a good reaction,” said Kimmich in an interview with Sportschau – and was referring to the early goal conceded. “In the end,” said Kimmich, that was it “Victory was well deserved even at the highest level§.

Laimer scores for Bayern for the first time

This was not necessarily to be expected immediately after Leipzig’s equalizer. Munich tried a lot, but not much succeeded. Until the 25th minute. Konrad Laimer initiated a Bayern attack and completed it with a remarkable volley to give Bayern the lead again (25th minute). It was the first goal for the Austrian, who played for Leipzig for six years before moving to Bayern in the summer of 2023.

Ten minutes later, Kimmich took courage and shot from a half-right position from 25 meters. The ball turned slightly and Peter Gulacsi in the goal of the guests from Saxony had no chance.

Bayern were overwhelmingly strong against Leipzig after the break

Gulacsi caused a stir twice after the break when he parried Musiala and Harry Kane, who was playing for the first time after the injury break, with his lightning-fast right fist. Overall, Leipzig was exposed to fireworks and top-class Bayern chances. Leroy Sané failed with a shot from the left position (53′).

In the 75th minute, the highly gifted Bayern player was successful from an identical position – and was then surrounded by congratulating teammates. Davies had served Sané with a precision pass into the depths, and the Canadian headed in a short time later from Kimmich’s cross from the right to make it 5-1 (78th). “We deserved to lose, even at a height”Leipzig coach Marco Rose told Sportschau.

Leipzig’s Henrichs was seriously injured

Benjamin Henrichs was injured without any opposition and remained lying on the pitch in great pain, surrounded by teammates from Leipzig and Bayern. Daniel Siebert whistled for the game during the injury interruption. It is feared that the national player has been seriously injured.

With this success, Munich extended its lead in the table to seven points over Bayer Leverkusen, who host Freiburg on Saturday evening. Leipzig remains in fourth place.

Bavaria say Christmas party away

Because of the terrible events in Magdeburg, the planned small Christmas ceremony in the Munich stadium after the party was canceled. Instead, Bayern CEO Jan Dreeßen called for a minute’s silence. Afterwards, many of the 75,000 spectators sang “Silent Night” together with the Tölzer Boys’ Choir.
