Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on new border efforts | RAW
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was in Eagle Pass Thursday to discuss a new effort on the Texas-Mexico border that includes putting up billboards in Mexico and Central American countries.
EAGLE PASS, Texas – Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a new campaign to combat illegal immigration.
Abbott announced that dozens of billboards will be erected in Mexico and Central America to warn migrants about the dangers of crossing the border.
“Your wife and daughter will pay for the journey with their bodies. Coyotes lie. “Don’t put your family in danger,” reads one of the billboards.
The governor’s office says more than 40 billboards will be installed in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico, as well as along the Texas-Mexico border. The first billboards as part of the campaign, which cost around $100,000, were put up on Wednesday.
The billboards will be in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Russian.
The governor announced the plan at Wall Ranch in Eagle Pass.
Kimberly and Martin Wall say women who tried to cross the border illegally were sexually abused on their property.
“It makes you afraid to leave your house and enjoy your own property,” Kimberly Wall said. “You don’t know if you will be attacked by one of the men hiding in the undergrowth. We all want a better life for everyone.”
Gov. Abbott spoke next to a burned tree where Wall said coyotes sexually attacked a woman and hung her clothing on a tree.
