SBNation reacts to results: Seahawks fans won’t consider the season a failure if Seattle misses the playoffs

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Every week we ask questions of the most connected people Seattle Seahawks Fans and fans across the country.

The Seattle Seahawks suffered a demoralizing loss to the Green Bay Packers in prime time last week. Despite this loss, 78% of Seahawks fans are still confident that the team is on the right track. With the loss to the Packers, the Seahawks are safely in must-win mode for the remainder of the 2024 season. With this knowledge, Seahawk fans may look at the team from a big-picture perspective and feel like Mike Macdonald is leading the team in the right direction.

As we look to the immediate future, the confidence of Seahawks fans is waning. 71% of Seahawks fans believe the Minnesota Vikings will beat the Seahawks. 37% of this group believe the game will be closer than not, predicting the Vikings will win by 1-8 points. This is not the most surprising result. The Vikings are one of the best teams in the NFL and are tied for first place in the NFC at 12-2 with the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles and still have a clear shot at the number one seed. After last week’s loss to the Packers in prime time, it’s no surprise that it will be a big challenge to beat the even stronger Vikings next Sunday.

If the Seahawks lose next Sunday, their playoff hopes will become even more difficult and almost completely gone.

But even if the Seahawks miss the playoffs, 56% of Seahawks fans won’t view the 2024 season as a failure. A lot of that may be due to Mike Macdonald entering his first year as head coach. Currently, the Seahawks are 8-6 and just one win away from at least reaching 9-8 in 2023. Even if Seattle lost 8-9, Macdonald would still be able to turn around a struggling defense and maintain the Seahawks culture that Pete Carroll helped implement in the 2010s. Meanwhile, 25% of Seahawks fans believe the 2024 season depends on how the team performs. If the Seahawks actually lose 8-9, many of the above 56% will certainly feel differently, especially if the defense takes a step back or if Geno Smith and the offense continue to struggle (particularly in the red zone).

As mentioned above, regardless of how the Seahawks perform and how the Seahawks are viewed in 2024, the vast majority of Seahawks fans (78%) are confident that Mike Macdonald is keeping the team moving in the right direction.
