Rating the Giants’ 34-7 loss to the Falcons on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta:

attack

Are there more quarterbacks out there? We’ve seen enough of this sad lot.

Drew Lock (22 of 39, 210 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs) has two more pick-six interceptions and a lost fumble for a turnover.

The line resulted in jailbreaks for the Falcons at times, as Lock was on the run and was sacked three times.

Malik Nabers (7 rec., 62 yards) has to stop with these illegal shift penalties. He set the team rookie record for receptions in a season, so that’s something, right?

Great job by rookie Tyrone Tracy, who made a diving attempt in the back of the end zone for a TD early in the second quarter.

RT Evan Neal had three false start penalties and was run over on the second pick-six along with Greg Van Roten on the right side of the line, resulting in a deflected pass.

C John Michael Schmitz had a late holding penalty. A holding penalty on Wan’Dale Robinson in the final minutes led to a TD run by Tracy. Only 234 total yards and 14 first downs. Ugly, ugly, ugly.

defense

That unit struggled early but was exhausted and unable to get to rookie QB Michael Penix Jr., making him uncomfortable in his first NFL start.

Penix (18 of 27, 202 yards, 1 INT) didn’t have to do much.

CB Deonte Banks returned after missing three games, and on the first play of the game Ray-Ray McCloud had a pass error.

Banks was up to his old tricks and called a 30-yard pass interference penalty for ambushing Darnell Mooney.

Kayvon Thibodeaux showed some toughness as he chased Penix from behind to gain a 1-yard gain and force a punt. CB Dru Phillips showed his strength when he brought down Bijan Robinson after a catch for a 4-yard loss.

Boogie Basham intercepted Tyler Allgeier for a 1-yard loss.

Brian Burns had a tackle on Robinson, resulting in a 2-yard loss. CB Cor’Dale Flott was alert and intercepted at the goal line late in the second quarter after Dane Belton separated the ball from TE Kyle Pitts.

Robinson (22-94, 2 TDs) got his yards but had to work for most of them. The Falcons scored 8 of 14 on third down.

Special teams

Jamie Gillan’s first punt traveled 51 yards and was a fair catch at the Atlanta 10-yard line.

He had a 46-yard throw that brought the Falcons back to their 14 yards. Was his 21-yard punt partially deflected in the fourth quarter?

If not, it was a failure. Eric Gray had a 37-yard kickoff return late in the second quarter.

Coaching

It looked like Brian Daboll was about to blow the seal after a delay of game penalty in the second quarter and again after Lock’s first pick-six.

Daboll wants to call for passes, but he did that too many times early in the game.

It’s Drew Lock out there, not Josh Allen.

Shane Bowen got his top three cornerbacks back and they weren’t beaten deep, but the coverage remains weak at times.

The pressure on Penix (zero sacks) was minimal.
