According to the National Weather Service, multiple emergency responders were requested in the Capitola/Santa Cruz area. The NWS advises people to stay away from the water. “You are putting your life at risk and those of the people who will then have to try to save you,” the NWS said online. A coastal flood warning and a high surf warning are in effect for the coast from San Francisco to the Big Sur coast until noon Tuesday. “The high surf warning is for dangerously large breaking waves of 25 to 35 feet, with the largest wave reaching up to 50 feet in preferred locations. “There is a possibility of life-threatening swimming conditions and potential coastal erosion. Waves can sweep across the beach without warning. Capitola Wharf is closed until further notice.
