Not a white Christmas, but it’s likely to rain across most of San Diego County on Christmas Eve – NBC 7 San Diego

According to the National Weather Service, it won’t be a white Christmas, but it will likely be a slightly wet one.

“It won’t be very heavy, just enough to wet the cars and the ground, a few showers but nothing too drenching,” said NWS meteorologist David Munyan, who put the chance of rain on Christmas Eve at 60%.

“The fog won’t be as bad as we saw last weekend,” he said. “It will probably clear up by Tuesday morning. However, it will continue to be cloudy for most of the day.”

The NWS forecaster said less than 0.15 inches of rain is expected Tuesday, with larger amounts in the mountains and little or no rain in the deserts. Munyan said rain was likely to begin around 5 or 6 p.m. on Tuesday, but this would likely last until Christmas Day. “It will clear completely and Christmas Day should be sunny but cool,” he said.

Munyan said temperatures will be near normal over the next few days, with a chance of up to 5 degrees below average. “Overall temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid 60s along the coast and in the high 60s in the inland valleys on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day,” he said.

Munyan said high surf was likely to continue along the coast, with waves 10 to 12 feet high. “It will stay that way through the holidays,” he said.

“Maybe there will be some thunderstorms. We can’t rule out a few flakes on the highest peaks of the mountains,” the meteorologist said about the likelihood of a white Christmas in the mountains this year.
