Florida pizza delivery man accused of stabbing pregnant woman to death at motel after tip dispute

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — A pizza delivery woman in Central Florida has been accused of forcing her way into a motel room and stabbing a pregnant woman after an argument over a tip with an accomplice, authorities said.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Brianna Alvelo has been accused of stabbing a woman to death in her motel room in Kissimmee, Florida, shortly after delivering a pizza to her on Sunday.

The woman gave Alvelo $50 on a $33.10 bill and expected change. As Alvelo walked away, the woman demanded money back and the pizza delivery driver told her they would not give change, according to an arrest report.

The woman began searching for smaller denominations in two purses in her motel room and in her car as Alvelo watched. She received a smaller dollar bill from her boyfriend, with whom she was staying at the hotel with her 5-year-old daughter, and Alvelo’s tip ended up being $2, the report said.

Alvelo “rolled his eyes and walked away without saying anything,” the report said.

A short time later, the woman, her boyfriend and her daughter were sleeping when they heard a knock on the motel room door. The woman opened the door and was confronted by a woman, who authorities said was Alvelo, and an armed man, both wearing face masks, who forced their way into the room. The armed man ordered his friend to go to the bathroom. Alvelo rummaged through their belongings in the motel room and then stabbed the women 14 times with a pocket knife while protecting her daughter, the arrest report said.

The arrest report said the woman had just found out she was several weeks pregnant. She was taken to a hospital where she underwent surgery for a ruptured lung.

Alvelo is charged with attempted murder, residential burglary with a firearm, kidnapping and aggravated assault with a weapon. An online court record showed no attorney for her. Before her first hearing on Thursday, she said in court documents that she could not afford an attorney and requested that one be appointed for her.

As of Thursday, authorities had not publicly identified the male suspect.
