Kenneth Walker’s season is over.

The Seahawks are trying to extend their play without him.

The team restored its lead to injured reserve before kickoff Thursday against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. General manager John Schneider said on the Seahawks radio station’s pregame show that Walker had an upper ankle sprain. He did that last weekend in Seattle’s home loss to Minnesota.

“We feel terrible for Ken. “Obviously he’s a damn good running back, a talented guy, a really good person,” Schneider said on Radio Thursday. “Unfortunately he had the high ankle. Really, it was a pretty nasty game. I only realized how bad it was back then when you saw the film. It was a pretty bad ankle injury.”

Seattle signed undrafted rookie running back George Holani from Boise State from the practice squad to the active roster for the remainder of the season.

Does this make the playoffs?

The Seahawks entered Thursday night’s game one game plus tiebreaker behind the Los Angeles Rams (9-6). The Rams host Arizona on Saturday, then the Seahawks the first weekend in January. The best way for Seattle to make it into the NFC West next week is for the Rams to lose to the Cardinals on Saturday. If LA wins, the Seahawks will need a combination of games across the league to find their way this weekend and stay in postseason contention through Week 18.

Zach Charbonnet made his seventh career start and fifth of the season when quarterback Geno Smith replaced Walker again on Thursday night. Two games ago, the 2023 second-round draft choice out of UCLA rushed for a career-high 134 yards in Seattle’s win at Arizona.

“Charbs is having a great season. Kenny McIntosh, more opportunities for him (as the new No. 2 back), Schneider said.

“We have moved George Holani up and added him to our squad. These guys are talented runners. as well as.

“In my opinion, Zach had a really underrated season. He’s such an all-rounder. He also played on special teams. Great pass protection, catches the ball well. He’s just a big guy. He shows up every day and is a true consummate professional.”
