Joe Burrow is the 11th quarterback in NFL history with at least 40 touchdowns in a season

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow became the 11th quarterback in NFL history to throw 40 touchdown passes in a season with his first TD pass in Saturday’s NFL Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos at Paycor Stadium, a 2-yard throw to Tee Higgins in the second quarter.

Burrow threw his 41st TD pass of the season, also to Higgins, in the fourth quarter.

Burrow’s 40-touchdown season is the 20th in league history. Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers each had three seasons with 40+ TD passes; Peyton Manning, Patrick Mahomes, Dan Marino, Drew Brees and Matthew Stafford each had two; Kurt Warner, Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson also achieved the feat.

Burrow, who leads the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns this season, came into the game with 39 TD passes, a Bengals single-season record.

In the first quarter of the Bengals’ Week 16 win over Cleveland, Burrow became the NFL’s first 4,000-yard passer of the season.

Burrow set the franchise single-season record with 4,611 passing yards in 2021.
