Sunday NFL Open Thread – Cincy Jungle

We have a full day of football ahead of us and it ends with two playoff contenders in the NFC.

You wouldn’t have known it a few weeks ago, but this Sunday Night Football game is between two first-round rookie quarterbacks. There will also be a clash between two teams that will determine their own playoff fate when the Washington Commanders host the Atlanta Falcons.

Washington is pretty good even in a loss, but they can make life easier by getting to 8-7, and 9-7 teams have no hope of clinching the last Wild Card spot they have left have under control.

They were led by Jayden Daniels, who practically has his sights set on the Rookie of the Year title at this point. He has scored 28 total touchdowns this season, including a five-touchdown performance against the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense.

On the other hand, the Falcons really had a tough time considering the expectations they had after signing Kirk Cousins at quarterback. Then they took the surprising step of nominating his apparent successor, 25-year-old Michael Penix Jr., in the first round of the draft.

He started his first game as a rookie last week after Cousins led the team to a 6-3 start before losing four straight, with Cousins throwing one touchdown to nine interceptions.

Penix looked good and the Falcons won, but they also faced the New York Giants. Right now, Atlanta is in control of its own destiny as it leads the NFC South, but one less player could put it right behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers again.

FandDuel Sportsbook currently has the Commanders as 3.5-point favorites.
