Everything that happened in Women’s WarGames

WWE’s Women’s WarGames was packed with talent, but was betrayed by the haste with which it was put together. WWE finds itself in a time where equality and justice are constantly mixed together. WWE’s women’s revolution was one of the best things to happen to the wrestling industry in the last two decades. This has also impacted WWE feeling the need to fill the promotion with championship belts, despite the disparity between male and female wrestlers on each roster. Both WWE Raw and SmackDown announced the Women’s Intercontinental Championship and Women’s United States Championship, respectively.

As tonight’s pay-per-view broadcast showed, WWE’s opening match was a last-minute women’s war match. Because the men also do WarGames.

It’s only fair.

There’s nothing wrong with having two separate WarGames matches for men and women. But to truly demonstrate justice, it’s important for WWE to put as much effort into long-term booking of Women’s WarGames as they do with the men’s. The storytelling for the men’s WarGames match offered another entertaining twist in a years-long Bloodline saga. This time, CM Punk – along with Paul Heyman – returned to team up with Roman Reigns and the OG Bloodline. Reigns and Punk had a great sit-down segment during SmackDown’s go-home show last night.

Tensions arose on both sides in the build-up to WWE’s Women’s WarGames. Most notably, an increasingly ruthless Bianca Belair clashed with Rhea Ripley during Jade Cargill’s mysterious attack.

Everything that happened in Women’s WarGames

Today was Jade Cargill Attack Suspect Naomi’s birthday. She celebrated by walking out wearing a birthday hat. Rhea Ripley was the last to leave and was greeted like a hero.

Bayley and Nia Jax started the match. Team Rhea has 18 WarGames appearances, Team Liv has nine.

Fans chanted, “Hey, we want some Bayley!” and “Let’s go, Bayley!” in the first few minutes.

Bayley and Nia Jax made up for their awkward hurricanrana spot from their WWE Bad Blood match with Bayley hitting Nia with an impressive hurricanrana in the cage.

While it always seems odd in WarGames for babyfaces to have an advantage, having a two-on-one advantage against monster heel Nia Jax has added a little more since then. Jax dominated as the clock ran out.

Naomi entered the ring as the second participant. She went after the monster Nia Jax all by herself. Just as Naomi and Bayley gained the advantage, Nia evened the odds with the help of a kendo stick. Naomi turned the tables with a stinky face while a toilet seat hung around Nia’s neck.

Candice LeRae avoided Tiffany Stratton and entered the match herself. LeRae struggled to find a weapon while Nia Jax scored some of the weakest chairshots on Naomi and Bayley I’ve ever seen. There wasn’t much excitement in this match until Jax and LeRae started taunting the crowd.

LeRae hit an impressive springboard moonsault on Bayley while Bayley was on the chairs.

EST came in with a trash can, a fire extinguisher and finally a table with a loud bang. Tiffany Stratton followed Bianca three minutes later for another big bang. Despite being a heel, Stratton ran wildly at the babyfaces and delivered an impressive comeback as the heels took control.

Iyo Sky was next, making Rhea Ripley the last babyface fighter not yet at WarGames. Like Stratton and Belair, Iyo produced a trash can. Iyo grabbed the (purple) trash can and climbed up. Iyo tried a sunset flip powerbomb, but LeRae didn’t call it. They somehow made up for it with a missile drop kick.

Raquel Rodriguez pulled a table out from under the ring but didn’t take it into the ring. She also had difficulty finding weapons under the ring.

The heels remained firmly in control as fans chanted “We want mommy!” Despite a few mistakes, WWE bookended this match well to give the impression that the heels had the advantage at all times. And that even though the babyfaces had the advantage over the women.

After a generous chant of “This is great!”, the babyfaces attacked Raquel Rodriguez with an array of weapons, but Raquel fought back by kicking a toilet seat into Naomi’s face.

When it was Liv’s turn to join the fight, Ripley was waiting for her. Liv walked away but came back with a baseball bat.

Ripley took off her protective mask, but looked even more badass with the mask on.

Morgan hit Rhea with a few punches. An attempt to handcuff Rhea in the corner failed as the babyfaces returned.

Iyo hits a moonsault with a trash can. At the same time, Stratton hit a Swanton Bomb on the babyfaces. These pitches were definitely the best pitches in an error-filled game.

After both Liv and Nia were laid out, Tiffany Stratton pulled out her Money in the Bank briefcase and considered cashing out. Stratton was foiled by Raquel Rodriguez and the Iyo Sky fire hydrant.

The babyfaces regained the advantage after Rhea handcuffed Rodriguez to a turnbuckle.

There was a joke between Iyo Sky and Bayley about whether they can coexist, which was broken up by Nia Jax. Jax then put Bianca Belair on a table and attempted an Annihilator. Belair and Naomi countered with a double power bomb.

Rhea won the match for her team with a riptide from the top rope through a table. A great finish.
