Alabama basketball’s Latrell Wrightsell suffers leg injury in game against Oregon; Nate Oats provides an update

Alabama basketball player Latrell Wrightsell suffered what appeared to be a serious leg injury during the second half of the Crimson Tide’s 83-81 loss to Oregon in the Players Era Festival championship game Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Wrightsell, who entered Saturday’s game averaging 11.7 points per game this season, was helped off the court after suffering a non-contact injury while chasing an offensive rebound 18:51 into the second half. Unable to put any weight on his left leg, he grabbed the back of his ankle.

Towards the end of the second half, Wrightsell – who scored 10 points in 15 minutes of action before his injury – returned to the bench in street clothes and wore a protective boot on his lower left leg. After the game, Alabama coach Nate Oats gave an update.

“They’re worried about his hamstring, which obviously wouldn’t be good,” Oats said via On3. “As soon as we get back, they’ll have him examined.”

The 6-foot-10 Wrightsell, a fifth-grader, is in his second season at Alabama after transferring from Cal State-Fullerton. He played in 31 games, starting 12, and averaged 8.9 points per game for the Crimson Tide’s Final Four team in the 2023-24 season.

Alabama (6-2) travels to North Carolina on Wednesday.
