A firefighter’s wife and their twins must be removed from life support

A Massachusetts firefighter’s wife and their newborn twins will be taken off life support Friday after a heartbreaking medical story.

Patrick Sullivan, who served the city of Rutland for 13 years as a dispatcher, firefighter and paramedic, and his wife Ciara were expecting twins when she suffered a medical emergency. City officials said Ciara had to be intubated and the babies were delivered via emergency cesarean section.

The babies spent several days on ventilators “with a grim prognosis,” officials said.

Meanwhile, Ciara underwent an MRI to determine the possibility of brain damage.

Her condition and the condition of the twins were described by officials as “critical” on Christmas Eve.

Tragically, officials announced Thursday evening that Ciara and the infants would be withdrawn from all life support on Friday.

“Please keep Pat and the entire family in your prayers during this unimaginably difficult time,” officials wrote.
