A look at the new concept of what's on the menu

The first Saucy location opens in Orlando, Florida.

According to KFC, it’s time to reinterpret a classic.

The fast-food chicken shop will open the first location of its spin-off restaurant Saucy this weekend.

The standalone concept is launching in Florida with customizable offerings and an expanded selection of sauces and drinks. KFC says with a pink color scheme and a modern touch, Saucy will leverage some of the latest industry technologies to create a smooth, streamlined experience.

The first location will feature drive-thru lanes, kiosks and back-of-house technology that uses real-world data to reduce wait times and keep food in stock and fresh. KFC also plans to schedule programming such as live entertainment at its first location to encourage guests to stay longer.

A website, saucy.kfc.com, and an app with a 20-point personalization interface have already been launched so KFC superfans can prepare ahead of the grand opening.

Here’s what we know so far about KFC’s Saucy.

What is Saucy by KFC and when will it open?

Saucy is a new small restaurant from KFC that, as the name suggests, focuses on sauces. With a limited selection of chicken fillets, a few sandwiches, and a small handful of sides, the KFC spinoff is bringing new flavors to the table in the form of dips and sips.

With an assortment of 11 dipping sauces and a new, edgy beverage menu, Saucy is focused on mixing, matching and customizing each customer’s experience.

The first location will open on Monday, December 23rd at 502 S. Alafaya Trail in the Waterford Lakes neighborhood of Orlando, Florida. KFC has hinted at expansion plans but has not yet announced additional locations.

What dishes are on the Saucy menu?

Saucy focuses on allowing guests to customize each meal to suit their taste buds. Guests can choose a combination, choose a range of sauces, or mix sauces and sides to create the perfect meal. The basic menu offers:

Fast food chains are taking the risk on small concept restaurants

KFC is not the first major fast food chain to invest in a spin-off this year.

In December 2023, McDonald’s announced its plans for CosMc’s, a small-format concept inspired by a retro space aesthetic and focused on small bites and unique drinks.

With seven iced tea and lemonade flavors, four Galactic Boost energy drinks, 11 coffee and tea drinks and five frappe flavors, as well as the traditional list of soft drinks and milkshakes, CosMc’s shifted its focus to the beverage market to compete with other brands such as Dutch Bros.

The menu is a little more limited but just as unique and includes a Spicy Queso Sandwich, a Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich, Pretzel Bites, Savory Hash Brown Bites, a Snack Box and stuffed pastries called McPops. There are also cookies, sundaes, McFlurries, ice cream and three traditional McMuffin options.
