A multi-alarm fire breaks out in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City firefighters are battling a four-alarm fire that broke out just before 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning

Watch a large fire burn live in Salt Lake City below:

According to officials, the fire started in a commercial building near 1030 South and 200 West. The building once served as the Mrs. Fields production building but has been abandoned for the past five to six years.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department says that when they arrived they saw flames shooting through the roof of the building and took a defensive position against the fire, meaning they fought the fire from outside the building and took care of it that the fire does not spread.

There was no one in the building at the time of the fire and the fire department reported no injuries. Up to 80 firefighters are currently working to bring the flames under control and first responders believe it could take several hours to extinguish.

Traffic in the area will be impacted by the response as 200 West will be closed from 900 South to 1300 South. Brooklyn Avenue is also closed from 300 West to 200 West.

Also to protect firefighters, UTA TRAX has shut down its lines in both directions between 600 South and Central Pointe. A bus bridge will be used for those requiring transit.
