A new month and a new year brings with it a new weather pattern this week

We are just days away from 2025, but we are also on the verge of changing our current warm, non-snowy weather pattern.

Here’s a look back at temperatures in the Great Lakes, where Syracuse actually reached over 60 degrees!

This was just a few degrees shy of the record high of 65 degrees set in 1984.

If you have to travel by car or plane in the next 24 hours, there will be some influencing weather, mainly in the form of wind.

Wind gusts of over 30 miles per hour at times have already been reported in our recent low pressure area in the Ohio River Valley.

Although these gusts are not harmful, they can still be felt on your car while driving, during takeoffs and landings, and cause turbulence while your flight is in the air.

After this low pressure system and associated cold front moves through Monday morning, our temperatures will begin to drop as winds shift from south to west.

Let’s take an hour-by-hour look at what it looks like with warm temperatures and gusty winds now until sunrise:

There’s even the external change of a few rumbles of thunder or a few short bursts of heavy rain overnight when you’re trying to sleep.

In addition to cooler temperatures, which are still above average for this time of year, there is a chance of light rain or light wet snow showers by dinner Monday evening.

Forecast for Sunday evening:

Forecast for Monday:

There’s a lot of changing weather conditions this week in our outlook for the extended holiday week. The most notable part of the coming week will be the return to colder winter conditions and snow effect in Syracuse and CNY.

The National Weather Service will likely issue some type of winter weather advisory for our region due to possible impacts to driving conditions and significant snowfall in many areas Thursday through Sunday.

Please check back daily for updates on this changing weather pattern so you know what to expect and so the information can help you make decisions.

Have a nice rest of the weekend and the rest of 2024!
