A shooting at a Butte County school leaves two students injured and the suspected shooter killed

A suspected gunman is dead and two students are hospitalized after a shooting Wednesday at a Butte County elementary school, officials said. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said they received a 911 call about a shooting at Feather River Adventist School near Palermo around 1 p.m. When officers arrived on campus, they found a man believed to be the shooter suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. That man is dead. Officers also found two students with gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s office said. They are now in hospital with unknown injuries. Honea said details about the children’s ages and genders are not being released at this time, but he said one of the students was transported by air. The sheriff’s office said the students were being taken to Oroville Church of the Nazarene in Oroville. Parents are asked to meet with their children at the church on Monte Vista Ave. 2238 to meet. Honea said the shooter is not believed to have any connection to the campus. He has not yet been identified. Check out Honea’s full press conference update below. The school, which is still on lockdown, is run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. KCRA 3’s DeNeeka Hill is located at the corner of Cox Lane and Stimpson Road and said the road is blocked by officers in that area. Caltrans said Highway 70 is closed in both directions between East Gridley and Power House Hill roads. It is unclear when the highway in the area will reopen. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said they received a 911 call about a shooting at Feather River Adventist School near Palermo around 1 p.m.
